Whats the big deal about the Drug War?
The violence of the Mexican Drug War has affected many of my relatives. About a week ago my cousin was robbed at gun point on a bus towards Jimenez. Living in El Paso just a short walk from Juarez, I got to experience Juarez in its prime full of vendors, fairs, and a lively crowd to boot. Now no one dares to walk alone or at night. The atmosphere has definitively changed since the Drug War began. Juarez is a place very dear to me and my family and its sad not being able to venture to and fro safely. I made it my goal to get informed about the Drug War and to stay on top of the latest news.
Comic/Article Genre Analysis
For this assignment I had to compare a cartoon and an article both about the Mexican Drug War. It is sufficient to say that the article genre > cartoon genre in terms of information, credibility, and presentation. The cartoon I used is at the bottom of the post be sure to view it before you proceed. Without further ado I present to you my Genre Analysis in all its glory.
Violence in Mexico Literature Review
Writing this behemoth of a paper was arguably the most time consuming assignment ever! Luckily, my efforts were well spent on this gem as I was handsomely rewarded with a generous grade. This assignment has taught me a great deal about Felipe Calderon, how the drug war escalated to its present state, and how closely intertwined the Mexican Government and Drug Cartels are. I hope you enjoy my paper as much as I did writing it.
Marijuana Legalization Opinion Piece
When proposition 19 debuted I was jumping for joy at the thought of legal marijuana. I thought it was sure to passed but, it was ultimately defeated with 53.5% voting against it. However, this defeated bill is evidence that marijuana legalization is now being taken seriously. Now it is just a matter of time till the prohibition on marijuana ends.Following the jump is my opinion piece about the issue.
